Were you able to snag a PlayStation 5 pre-order sometime after Sony's showcase presentation last Wednesday? Sony initially announced plans to kick off pre-orders the following day, but retailers were keen to start right away, with everyone from Walmart to Target, Best Buy, GameStop, Amazon, and more going live unexpectedly with pre-orders almost immediately. As a result, many struggled to secure a console, and Sony has since apologized for the disorganized fiasco.
Sites were down intermittently, pages refused to load, and scalpers were way quicker on the draw when it came to successfully locking in PS5 pre-orders. So, in one of the many understatements of the year, Sony said, "Let's be honest: PS5 pre-orders could have been a lot smoother."
In addition to the invite-only pre-orders that went up recently on Sony's official store, the company promises to release more consoles for pre-order over the next few days. More PS5s will also be available through the end of the year.
Let’s be honest: PS5 preorders could have been a lot smoother. We truly apologize for that.

There aren't any specifics beyond that, unfortunately. It seems Sony is leaving it up to the retailers to provide further details, and we all saw how that went the first time around.
Meanwhile, Microsoft has been throwing some not-so-subtle shade Sony's way, opting for a much more organized pre-order process. We'll see how the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S pre-order situation plays out on Tuesday, September 22.
