Samsung today announced a partnership with The Commons Project Foundation making it easier for Galaxy phone owners to upload and carry a verified digital COVID-19 vaccination card. They’re calling it “SMART Health Cards,” and it’s available inside Samsung Pay.

With more and more events, from concert venues to CES, all requiring proof of vaccination before entry and more likely along the way, Samsung is giving its users an easy and safe way to do so. And for those that don’t have Samsung Pay, a similar option is coming soon to Google Pay.

Overall, the process looks fairly straightforward and painless, with the only downside being that you’ll need to download and install both the Samsung Pay app and the CommonHealth app. Once a user uploads their vaccine card to the CommonHealth app, the company uses a “secure authentication measure” to verify the information.

After that’s complete, users can add the details to their Samsung Pay wallet for “convenient access and use.” In addition, the COVID-19 vaccine credential can be securely shared with any trusted party via a QR code by tapping on “COVID-19 vaccine pass” in Samsung Pay.

Additionally, those that don’t own a Samsung phone can still complete the process with the CommonHealth app and share a verified digital vaccination card if needed.

Samsung says this new feature is only available to some of its latest high-end devices so far. However, every compatible device should see the option in Samsung Pay within the next week.
