#Russian couple say they spent 10 days in trees eluding bear

A Russian couple claims they spent ten days hiding in trees without food to escape a bear that was stalking them.

Anton and Nina Bogdanov said their vehicle got stock in a deep puddle in a remote part of the Kamchatka region, 11 miles from a hot spring they were visiting, according to The Sun.

The couple told the outlet they decided to walk to the springs to get a phone signal and call for help when they realized they were being followed by a brown bear.

“The bear was walking behind us, and we did not notice him straight away, he was absolutely silent,” Nina told the UK tabloid.

“My husband was the first to see the predator. At first we scared the bear, and he moved back. But then he ran after us.”

At that point, the couple claimed they raced down a hill and climbed a tree near a river, with Anton barely escaping the predator, according to the outlet.

“The bear nearly killed my husband,” Nina reportedly claimed.

“I threw my water bottle at the animal to distract him, and Anton managed to climb the tree.”

Hours later, the couple said the bear lunged up the tree at them, and they claimed to have beaten it back down by throwing a bag with all their food at it, the paper reported.

The brown bear, which are known to be skilled tree climbers, guarded them at the base of the tree for two days, Nina claimed, according to the outlet.

When the bear moved away, the couple reportedly said they dashed down the tree and got into the river.

“I almost drowned there, but Anton finally pulled me out,” Nina reportedly said.

“The bear was behind us, and got carried away by the current a bit.”

When the couple reached the other bank of the river, they said they were forced to climb another tree and stay in it for two days to escape the bear, according to the report.

At that point the couple told the paper they backtracked to their stranded car by climbing through the trees, a journey that apparently took six days.

“As soon as we reached the car, we heard noises of approaching vehicles,” Nina reportedly said.

“I started crying from happiness when I saw the cars.”

Four bear attacks on people were documented in the region over the past year, according to the report.
