#Rep. Ocasio-Cortez mocks Pence for calling for repeal of Green New Deal

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) on Wednesday mocked former Vice President Mike Pence (R) for calling for the repeal of the Green New Deal during the 2024 GOP debate, despite the fact that any such legislation has never been signed into law.

“Mike Pence was Vice President of the United States and still doesn’t know how a bill becomes a law, apparently,” she wrote in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Ocasio-Cortez’s post came in response to another post on X, which joked about Pence’s comments, calling it, “Impressive to just skip the step of passing it and going straight to repeal.”

During the debate, Pence called for the “repeal” of the Green New Deal, saying, “Joe Biden’s Green New Deal agenda is good for Beijing and bad for Detroit.”

“We ought to repeal the Green New Deal, get rid of the mandates and subsidies that are driving…American gasoline automotive manufacturing into the graveyard,” he added.

The Green New Deal, which commonly refers to a legislative package that seeks to address climate change while also supporting economic and social-justice issues, was introduced as a legislative package by Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) but never made it to the president’s desk.

President Biden has embraced several policies that are part of the Green New Deal, but he has not endorsed the Green New Deal, itself. His Inflation Reduction Act made historic investments in green energy solutions.
