#Rangers fans can’t bear the sight of this new Henrik Lundqvist

The King has a new throne.

Henrik Lundqvist posted a photo to Twitter Sunday afternoon of him sitting inside his new cubby in the Capitals locker room, captioning it as, “New surroundings.” Just above the veteran netminder is his new name plate, with his last name printed next to the Caps logo as well as his new number: 35.

The 38-year-old Lundqvist was bought out by the Rangers at the end of September, parting ways with the organization he played with for 15 years. The Rangers opened up $3 million in cap space for 2020-21 by buying out the final season of his seven-year deal with the franchise that began in 2014-15. The buyout, however, will add $1.5 million in dead space for the 2021-22 season.

The Capitals signed Lundqvist to a one-year, $1.5 million deal as the free agency window opened on Oct. 9. After former Caps goalie Braden Holtby signed with the Vancouver Canucks in free agency, Washington opted to add Lundqvist behind Ilya Samsonov, who is expected to be the primary starter for the organization next season.

Even though Lundqvist seemingly looks content with the smirk on his face, many Rangers fans grimaced in pain at the sight of their former franchise goalie getting comfortable in a rival’s locker room.

“Roadtrip. Checking out our new surroundings and we LIKE it?” Lundqvist wrote on Instagram.
