#Queen and Prince Charles told Meghan to write letter to dad

“Queen and Prince Charles told Meghan to write letter to dad”

Another day, another royal accusation.

Meghan Markle said Thursday that the letter she wrote to her father in 2018, which was subsequently leaked to the British press, was Queen Elizabeth II’s idea, reports Newsweek.

Markle, who made the explosive claim in the fifth episode of her Netflix docuseries “Harry & Meghan,” said that she went to the late monarch for advice when her father, Thomas, began publicly making disparaging remarks about her wedding.

According to the Duchess of Sussex, it was “very embarrassing for the family” and “a problem that needed to be solved…they wanted me to make it stop.”

“And of course, I reached out to Her Majesty and was like ‘This is what’s going on. What do you want me to do? I want … whatever advice you have,’” said the 41-year-old. “But ultimately, it was suggested by the Queen and the Prince of Wales [now King Charles] that I write my dad a letter.”

Markle said in the series how she went to “great lengths to get that letter to my dad discreetly.”

In October of 2018, Britain’s Mail on Sunday published extracts from the letter which had been provided to them by the senior Markle and contained what he called a “dagger to the heart.”

Markle recalls the reaction to the leak being “horrendous.”

Both Duke and Duchess decided to sue the paper for printing the private communication.

“We sat down with the lawyer for the institution [monarchy] and senior members of the palace,” recalled Markle “And it was in those meetings that I reminded them I wrote that letter at the guidance of senior members of the family.”

Markle and her husband proceeded with the case on their own after alleging the palace was stalling for time. Markle describes that moment as a “turning point” with the British media. “Everything changed after that,” she told Netflix.

The Courts ruled in Markle’s favor saying that the former royal had “reasonable expectation of privacy in the contents of the letter and those contents were personal, private and not matters of legitimate public interest.”
