# Our opinion on «Lupine III. Trilogy”

We’ll tell you whether the trilogy of “Lupine III.” pulled out of the cinema seats …

Moby

Daisuke Jigens Grabstein (7,5 / 10):

Here you can immerse yourself in the political intrigues of Doroa’s history, borrowing from the East-West division of Germany. You have to be careful at the beginning to understand the delicate story. The Jigen film convinces with aesthetic drawings in the revolver duels and chases with opponent Yael Okuzaki. With the start of the trilogy, you get a first impression of how the violence can look extremely detailed and with consequences. There is no fear of showing gunshot wounds, and neither is nudity. This becomes particularly clear in scenes of a torture show, which are reminiscent of “Neon Genesis Evangelion”.

Goemon Ishikawa, who makes it rain blood (8.5 / 10):

Here Goemon stands up to the hit man Hawk and has to prove himself. It’s not just about survival as in Part 1, but about pride and honor towards the Yakuza and yourself. I was particularly impressed by Marko Bräutigam as Hawks’ dubbing voice. He, too, helped make Part 2 my favorite out of the 3. The second part convinces with beautiful flowing movements, even more impressive music and duels with consequences.

Fujiko Mines Lie (7.5 / 10):

The 3rd duel between Fujiko and Bincam is a duel of manipulation. Who can wrap and trick whom? The final duel is like a dance by 2 people, but we are presented with more fan service than necessary. The end of the trilogy tries to tie loose threads in the overarching stories. Unfortunately, in my opinion, this is neglected. The secret adversary at the end of part 1 was no longer visible and was only declared to me as a well-known film character on the Internet (from a film that has not yet appeared in Germany).

Total:

In the OVA trilogy by director Takeshi Koike (“Redline”) Lupine III takes over. with each part a less present role, so that the limelight is put on his companions Daisuke Jigen, Goemon Ishikawa and Fujiko Mine. Each of them has to prove himself as a bodyguard and avenger.

Regarding the whole trilogy, I can say that it was more serious, bloody and revealing than the other Lupine adventures known to me. But the main focus of what you go in for is the new style.
This trilogy scores with beautifully drawn character designs, unorthodox camera angles and close-ups. But if you have not previously had any points of contact with Lupine III. had, the person will probably not be able to convince the fresh look with less wit alone.

The German dubbing worked great, even if some double cast was too much. In addition to the groom already mentioned, the whole Lupine gang delivered a great performance again. From Peter Flechtner’s (Lupine) and Tilo Schmitz’s (Jigen) wit and drunkenness, Peter Reinhardt’s thoughtful words as Goemon, Sarah Riedel’s seductive manner and up to the brief appearance of Stefan Staudinger as Commissioner Zenigata have immersed me into the world.

Rating: 8/10
