Temperatures in Central Park could top out around 93 degrees Monday, but it will feel more like the mid to upper 90s at the height of the day, Accuweather senior meteorologist Heather Zehr said.
Rain is likely for areas south and west of the city, but the city itself has a 30 percent chance of precipitation — a “hit or miss kind of storm,” according to Zehr.
“The problem with any storms today is anything that does pop up is going to have a lot of moisture to work with,” and that will lead to “downpours,” Zehr said.
The city has a higher chance of getting drenched on Tuesday, the meteorologist said. Temps will peak around the upper 80s, but it will feel like the 90s, she said.
Another thunderstorm is probable on Wednesday, which will see comparable temperatures. Wednesday, overall, will be “the most uncomfortable day,” according to Zehr.
“Heat and humidity adds to the soupy feel for the day,” she said.
Chances of rain will drop on Thursday, but temperatures will soar above 90.
Temperatures will reach the mid 80s on Friday, and rain is expected to return as a storm works its way through the southeastern part of the country, Zehr said.
That system is expected to bring rain to the city through the weekend.
Record high temperatures in the Big Apple sit around 100 degrees this time of year, and the city won’t touch those numbers this week.
But the heat is sticking around for longer than usual, according to Zehr.
“This is one of the longer spells of hot weather we’ve seen in the past couple years,” she said. “That will be most noticeable in suburbs.”
