According to a new rumor, Google may soon be launching the Pixel Buds Pro earbuds. The buds would be the new premium offering on the Pixel buds line, and they may even be poised to take on Apple’s fantastic AirPods Pro earbuds.

The rumor comes from noted leaker Jon Prosser on Twitter, detailing that Google’s earbuds are coming soon, and will be available in four colors: Real Red, Carbon (likely a dark grey or black), Limoncello (presumably a light yellow), and Fog (possibly a light grey or blue). Prosser’s Tweet didn’t say anything else, but other folks on Twitter say the announcement isn’t shocking, since the company has previously worked on spatial audio and head-tracking support.

We absolutely loved the Pixel Buds A-Series, and our previous Editor-in-Chief Cam said that he thought the earbuds were “Android’s AirPods.” So, the Pro version of those buds will likely have all those great features plus some more powerful ones to give it that premium feel, like active noise cancelation and perhaps even spatial audio support.

Google hasn’t confirmed the product, so we still don’t know other details about the buds like pricing, specs, or a release date. We’ve seen leaks and rumors for various Google products recently, too, like the upcoming Google Pixel Watch, improved activity integration for its Nest Hub displays, and even possible kinetic Nest Hub notifications. The company has even announced new features like easy account switching for YouTube TV (though the feature is still sorely missing on Chromecast with Google TV).

And with Google I/O 2022 just a matter of days away starting on Wednesday, May 11, it’s no wonder we’re hearing so much about potential new hardware and software releases. We will be covering Google’s event and noting its confirmed new hardware and other announcements then, so stay tuned.
