#New Girlfriend, Girlfriend Trailer Highlights Its Polyamorous Premise

The upcoming Girlfriend, Girlfriend (Kanojo Mo Kanojo) anime has received a new trailer that focuses on its polyamorous premise, which sees protagonist Naoya Mukai asking his girlfriend for permission to simultaneously date another girl who had confessed to him. The anime is set to premiere on July 2.

The cast includes Junya Enoki as Naoya, Ayane Sakura as Naoya’s first girlfriend and childhood friend Saki Saki, Azumi Waki as second girlfriend Nagisa Minase, Ayana Taketatsu as Rika Hoshizaki, and Rie Takahashi as Shino Kiryuu. 

Meanwhile, the staff includes Satoshi Kuwabara (The Quintessential Quintuplets) as director, Keiichirō Ōchi (The Quintessential Quintuplets) as series composer and scriptwriter, Mayumi Morita (Adachi and Shimamura) and Kazuhiko Inukai (Bakugan: Armored Alliance series composer) as scriptwriters, Akiko Toyoda (Akudama Drive) as character designer and chief animation director, Masami Saito (Adachi and Shimamura) as art director, Yumi Aburaya (Adachi and Shimamura) as color designer, and Kimura Toshiya (Bokura no Nanokakan Sensô) as photography director. Tezuka Productions is in charge of the animation production.  

Girlfriend, Girlfriend is based on the romantic comedy manga by Hiroyuki, which begin serialization in Weekly Shōnen Magazine in March 2020. The manga released its first volume in June 2020 and has four volumes as of January 2021. AnimeAnime noted that the anime adaptation was decided on only eight months from serialization, making Kanojo mo Kanojo a record-holder among Weekly Shōnen Magazine manga. 

Kodansha Comics, which began releasing the manga digitally on April 6, describes the story as:

Naoya just got a girlfriend, the gorgeous Saki-chan, and though their intensities often pit them against each other like ice and fire, they’re totally, uncontrollably in love with each other. He vows never to cheat…when out of the blue he receives another confession! Nagisa’s cute, sweet, and she’s made him lunch to boot! He knows he can’t cheat, but he can’t let a cutie like this get away…so he does the logical(?) thing: Asks Saki for permission to date them both! The confidence! The arrogance! The very gall! No matter the outcome, Naoya’s future will be lively!
