“Championship or bust” was the mantra for the Nets heading into the playoffs. They fought to the finish in Game 7 against the Bucks, but ultimately fell short in overtime in one of the great playoff games you will ever see. They did it without Kyrie Irving and with James Harden essentially playing on one leg. So was it a bust for the Nets to not make it to the Eastern Conference Finals?

To answer that question, review the Nets season and look ahead to the offseason, we bring you the Season 1 finale of the “Fullcourt on Flatbush” podcast with Robin Lundberg and Nets great Kerry Kittles, featuring one of the voices of the Nets on YES Network, Ryan Ruocco.

Fullcourt on Flatbush Podcast with Robin, Kerry & Jake:

  • FAILURE OR NO FAILURE: Robin does not believe this season with a failure for the Nets. Hard to ask them to win with just a healthy Kevin Durant and a banged-up Harden. With 1.5 stars, they still barely lost to a Bucks team they expected to go to seven games against even with everyone healthy.
  • WHAT WENT WRONG: Joe Harris was terrible for almost the entire playoffs. He missed wide-open 3-pointers in Game 7, where if he makes one the Nets are moving on. Jeff Green played banged up and didn’t score. Harden was 2-for-12 from downtown. They were clearly gassed in OT.
  • FUTURE: Nets have a window of 2-5 years to win titles. They will probably be favorites going into next season. They could use a big man. They could also use a three-and-D type player. Harris can become trade bait now.

  • SEASON: Played their heart out and should be proud of that. If two of the three superstars are healthy, they are going to the Finals.
  • DINWIDDIE/OFFSEASON: If the Nets don’t sign him, they should sign-and-trade him and get assets back. Nets need a guard off the bench that can score.
