#Nationals’ Dave Martinez ejected after epic meltdown

Lou Piniella would be proud.

Dave Martinez gave his best “Sweet Lou” impersonation Wednesday night during the Nationals’ win over the Cubs following his ejection.

Arguing a call at first base, the Nationals’ manager went off after he was given the heave-ho, pulling the base out of the ground, throwing and kicking it into foul territory.

In the seventh inning, Trea Turner struck out, but reached first base after a dropped third strike. The throw from Cubs catcher Willson Contreras was off. But it was ruled that Turner impeded the throw by running inside the baseline and was called for runner interference. Martinez came out to argue and was ejected.

“Honestly, I am beside myself now with this whole out-of-the-baseline thing, I really am,” Martinez said. “I mean, I think it’s awful. And there’s two parts to the rule, I get it. The second part of the rule is a judgment call. For me, it’s a bad judgment, plain and simple.”
