#N LITE’s MFINDA Film to be Pitched at 2023 Annecy Festival’s MIFA Pitches Presentation

Earlier this past January, multimedia company N LITE announced that it was producing an original “AFRIME” (short form for “Afro-Anime”) film titled MFINDA. Now, the production team recently announced that the film will be pitched at the MIFA Pitches Presentation, as part of the 2023 Annecy Festival.

The MIFA presentations offer animation teams a chance to present their project to a professional audience at Annecy. The purpose is to showcase original content to decision makers and distributors who can help finance an animated film’s production.

Two concept visuals for MFINDA have also been released, showcasing the film’s main characters and overall art style.

MFINDA will be released in both English and Japanese languages and is a Congolese/American/Japanese co-production. Veteran Japanese anime director Gisaburou Sugii (Night on the Galactic Railroad, The Life of Budori Gusuko) is co-directing the animated film with Arthell Isom (The Weeknd “Snowchild” music video producer). Donald H. Hewitt (Spirited Away English dub screenwriter), MFINDA creator Patience Lekien, and N LITE founder Christiano Malik Terry are writing the screenplay. Lekien and Terry are also credited with the original story, while Ozie Cargile is the musical composer.

The film’s production team is composed of Terry, Masao Maruyama, Studio M2, GKIDS, actor and producer Shin Koyamada, and ex-Atlus CEO Shigeru Igari

N LITE describes the synopsis of MFINDA as:

MFINDA tells the story of a young girl, Odi, who is transported into the past where she joins another young girl, Nasambi. They must venture into the MFINDA and confront evil spirits to reclaim the Nkisi if she has any hope of returning home.

N LITE plans to produce more black and indigenous focused films and TV series in hand-drawn 2D animation. The company’s Japanese subsidiary, N LITE Japan, is currently working on upcoming projects based on anime and manga series.
