The Mononoke: Karakasa anime movie has received a main trailer, which previews new scenes — with heavy focus on the supporting cast — and the newly announced theme song “Love Sick” by Aina the End.
There’s also a main visual, as well as new cast announcements like Hana Kanazawa as Kitagawa, Yuko Kaida as Awashima, Yukana as Mugitani, and Jun Fukuyama as Hiramoto.
The other new cast reveals are:
• Daisuke Hosomi as Sakashita
• Haruka Tomatsu as Botan Otomo
• Yoko Hikasa as Fuki Tokita
• Miyu Irino as Tenshi
• Kenjiro Tsuda as Mizorogi
Mononoke: Karakasa will premiere in Japan on July 26. It was announced in June 2022 at the 15th anniversary event of 2007’s Mononoke TV anime and was originally meant to be released in 2023.
Mononoke is a spin-off of the 2006 anime series Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Tales. The character of the Medicine Seller was introduced in Ayakashi‘s “Bakeneko” story, which comprised its last three episodes. Karakasa will take the monster-slaying Medicine Seller to the inner palace, which hides a “horrifying and painful” truth.
Crunchyroll describes the Mononoke series as:
In feudal Japan, evil spirits known as mononoke plague the countryside, leaving a trail of fear in their wake. One mysterious person has the power to slay the mononoke where they stand; he is known as the Medicine Seller, and he vanquishes the spirits using the power of his Exorcism Sword. In order to draw his sword he must understand the Form, Truth and Reason of the mononoke. Armed with a sharp wit, the Medicine Seller wanders from place to place, striking down the evil spirits in his wake.
Takahiro Sakurai originally voiced the Medicine Seller, but Karakasa will have Hiroshi Kamiya in the role.
