Season two of Minx is currently airing on Starz, and Jake Johnson recently spoke about how the cable channel saved the series following HBO Max’s abrupt cancellation in December. Starz, a channel that had dropped some of its own shows, picked up the Minx series in January.

Starring Johnson, Ophelia Lovibond, Idara Victor, Jessica Lowe, Lennon Parham, Michael Angarano, and Oscar Montoya, Minx follows the creation of the first erotic magazine for women.

The comedy series was cancelled by HBO Max (since rebranded as simply Max) as filming for season two was still underway. Production on the episodes was wrapped in hopes that another outlet would pick up the series.

Johnson said the following about the way the series was cancelled, according to THR:

“I found out with everybody else when the news broke. It was more of an existential hit, for me. It wasn’t creative or personal. It was just a huge corporation doing a snaky numbers move. The more these people keep pushing, the less it’s about art and creativity and the more it’s about data. Fucking gross.”

When asked about how the cancellation affected the mood of the cast and crew as they finished filming the second season, Johnson said:

“Our cast is so sweet, so new generation. On New Girl, which will always be my base, that was my generation and we were rattier. No one acted vulnerable. If we’d been canceled, we all would’ve been sailors about it. ‘OK, well, then, fuck Fox!’ With this group, there was just a sadness in the air. I’ve become a veteran, so I contacted a friend at Lionsgate and he explained that we weren’t dead. This show was lucrative for the studio domestically and internationally. There were already three streamers showing interest. The question wasn’t if we’d find a home. It was, ‘Who wants us the most and why?’”

The second season of Minx debuted on July 21st. The eight episodes are expected to finish being released on September 8th. There’s been no word yet on a possible third season.

What do you think? Have you watched this comedy show? Would you like to see a third season of Minx?
