#Marlins clinching playoffs gives Derek Jeter Bronx moment vs. Yankees

Derek Jeter still owns The Bronx.

Jeter’s Marlins clinched a playoff berth by beating the Yankees, 4-3 in 10 innings on Friday night.

It came six years to the day after Jeter — who became Marlins CEO in 2017 — hit a game-winning single in his final game at Yankee Stadium. This time, Jeter was in the middle of another memorable moment — but not for the Yankees.

Aaron Judge said it was tough to watch the Marlins marking their milestone on the Yankees’ turf.

“I’m not happy about it,’’ Judge said of watching it. “I don’t like it anytime a team celebrates on our field or if we’re at somebody else’s place, celebrate on their field. I’ve seen that too much.”

And to add more ex-Yankee flavor to the situation, Don Mattingly was in the dugout as his Marlins, who he has managed since 2016, knocked off the Yankees to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2003.

“Nobody picked this club to be able to do anything this season, but we believed in ourselves,” Mattingly said. “It’s easy to be proud of these guys, the way they have dealt with everything.”

The Marlins lost 105 games last season and were impacted by a COVID-19 outbreak this year.

The clincher also came on the fourth anniversary of pitcher Jose Fernandez’s death in a boating accident.

“To do this on his day, what a feeling,’’ Mattingly said.
