Naofumi Iwatani is actually just a simple otaku, but one day he finds himself in another world. He was summoned as one of the Four Legendary Heroes who are supposed to save the Melromarc Empire from ruin. As the hero of the shield, he should fight alongside his comrades – but soon they will stab him in the back and leave him without money, respect or honor. Will he be able to escape from this desperate situation with his purely defensive skills?

The anime “The Rising of the Shield Hero” naturally makes use of many elements that are known from Isekai anime. One could of course think that it is the typical scenario again: An absolute otaku comes into a fantasy world and becomes the hero of the world and everyone loves him. In this case, unfortunately, only the first is true. Because the anime goes in a different direction.

We accompany our hero Naofumi and his companions. Especially the sweet and strong Raphtalia. The anime tells a really nice story with a rapid twist at the end of the season. But the series doesn’t just bring out cool and cute characters. If there’s one antagonist I’ve really hated for a long time, it’s this red-haired lady from the royal family of the fantasy world. For spoiler reasons, I will not go into more detail at this point.

The animations of the anime are fluid and the background with dark and light elements underline the emotional state of the characters. At this point I would like to highlight the two openings of the first season. I really liked them and still stuck in my ear. The anime is for everyone who likes a fun and exciting anime. I also liked the German setting very much. The voices matched the respective characters. Fortunately, the second season of the series awaits us this fall. I can hardly wait!
