#Man rescues drowning baby bald eagle to prove to his son he’s ‘cool’

On July 4, Brett Bacon and his family were enjoying a boat ride across Lake Windermere in British Columbia, about 130 miles from the United States border, when they spotted a “giant bird” struggling on the water.

Once they were close enough, Bacon hung himself over the side of the boat to reach the raptor and realized it was a young bald eagle.

Meanwhile, his partner captured the entire rescue effort on video. Bacon swiftly pulled the bird out of the water and into the vessel.

Later, he can be seen clutching and soothing the anxious animal as it makes an attempt to fly away. Understanding that the scared, soaking-wet eagle needed to dry off and relax before being released, he sat with the bird for a few hours before it was ready to take flight.

Meanwhile, Bacon’s infant son can be seen watching as his hero pop consoled the majestic creature.

“Happy 4th of July. Saved a baby eagle from drowning in the middle of the lake,” Bacon wrote in an Instagram post on July 5. “Had to prove to my son I’m cool.”

Bacon later told video news site Viral Hog, “It flew away a few hours later. We saved an eagle on American Independence Day!”

Followers on social media applauded his harrowing rescue.

“Crazy, brave and humanity is alive. Thank you!! Hope you weren’t too scratched up,” wrote one grateful fan.

Imagining a karmic scenario fit for the animal advocate, another commenter told Bacon, “You know somewhere down the line, this is gonna come full circle. You’ll be an old feeble man caught up in a riptide off the coast of Hawaii, and just when there is no fight left and you’ve made peace with fate…. PIIIIKAAAAAAWWWWW a screeching eagle swoops down and grabs you with his big burly talons. The two of you wink at each other and fly off into the sunset. Fade to black.”
