“Man, 45, dies weeks after dozens of bikers beat him in NYC: cops”

A 45-year-old man died two weeks after he was brutally beaten by more than two dozen ATV and dirt bike riders during a Harlem road rage incident, cops said Wednesday.

Arthur Cooke was driving east on East 125th Street near Fifth Avenue just after 10 p.m. Nov. 4 when about 30 ATV and dirt bike riders surrounded him, authorities said.

One of the bikers struck the passenger-side mirror of Cooke’s car, police said.

When Cooke stepped out to inspect the damage, the bikers ganged up on him and started beating him, cops said.

One of the suspects also brandished a gun toward Cooke, authorities said.

Moments later, another man who wasn’t involved in the assault hopped in Cooke’s car and drove off, cops said.

Cooke was rushed to Harlem Hospital, where he was held in the ICU until he succumbed to his injuries Friday.

The incident was deemed a homicide, authorities said.

No arrests had been made by Wednesday.

Cooke was “on a date with his significant other” when he was attacked, according to a GoFundMe page set up for him prior to his death.

The fundraising page described him as “a man that is full of laughs and full of hope.”

He most recently took on the role of working as a court special advocate for Exodus Transitional Community, which provides services for currently and formerly incarcerated people, according to his LinkedIn profile.

“Arthur was a beloved member of our community and we are all devastated by the loss,” founder and executive director Julio Medina said in a statement obtained by WABC. “Like so many people at Exodus, we considered Arthur a member of our family, and his story is similar to the thousands of others we serve.”

“We watched as his mindset shifted from one of hopelessness since serving his sentence to one of hope and aspirations, and he was always helping his participants do the same,” Medina said. “To Arthur, the value of his work was apparent when he got to see the joy that those he helped realized that there is light at the end of the tunnel. That meant everything to Arthur.”

Cooke served four years in state prison – from 2017 to 2021 – on an assault charge, state Correction records show.

His previous prison stint was from 2009 to 2013 on robbery, assault and arson charges, according to the records.
