#Mac DeMarco Discusses “Chamber of Reflection” on New Podcast Sing for Science: Listen

Sing for Science is a new Talkhouse-produced podcast that promotes science literacy through music. Hosted by Matt Whyte, the new series premiered last month with an episode featuring Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser of MGMT.

Today’s episode stars Mac DeMarco, who discusses his Salad Days song “Chamber of Reflection,” as well as the actual echo chamber he built in his basement, with acoustician Russ Berger. During the podcast, DeMarco talks about the alchemy of recording music, particularly on tape, as well as the details of his Chamber of Reflection echo chamber, which features cement coated walls for better reverb and decay. Berger also talks about how our whole-body physiology affects the way we experience sound, the complicated feat of making a nightclub sound system sound good, and more. Listen to the full episode below.

This year, DeMarco has collaborated on new tracks with Benny Sings, Myd, Yellow Days, and Nick Hakim. He released the new solo song “Fooled by Love” in June, following the launch of a web series in March. His most recent album was last year’s Be the Cowboy.
