London police have fined 20 people for breaking the country’s strict COVID-19 lockdowns to attend alcohol-fueled parties at Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s offices and residence — a scandal that has rocked the conservative government and become known as “Partygate.”

It’s unclear if Johnson is among those who will be slapped with a fine, but the British leader did attend some of the secret soirees held at Downing Street in 2020 and 2021.

“We will today initially begin to refer 20 fixed penalty notices to be issued for breaches of Covid-19 regulations,” the Metropolitan Police said.

“We are making every effort to progress this investigation at speed and have completed a number of assessments.”

The force added that officers were working through a “significant amount of investigative material” and more people could subsequently be issued penalties.

The “bring your own booze” office gatherings, birthday celebrations and “wine time Fridays” were held as millions of Brits were in a government-mandated lockdown — and couldn’t even attend funerals or say farewell to loved ones dying in the hospital.

Johnson attended a celebration of his 56th birthday party at 10 Downing Street on June 19, 2020, with as many as 30 people present — despite bans on indoor social gatherings of more than two.

During one of the celebrations, Johnson was captured in a picture hoisting a can of beer.

The dozen or so parties represented “failures of leadership and judgment” and some of them “should not have been allowed to take place,” according to a report by top civil servant Sue Gray.

Johnson was contacted last month by police for the investigation into the parties that began in late January.

Dozens of politicians and government officials have been investigated over allegations that they flouted pandemic restrictions. During the probe, police sent questionnaires to more than 100 people, including the prime minister, and interviewed witnesses.

The scandal prompted widespread calls for Johnson to resign. Johnson eventually lifted the remaining COVID-19-related restrictions in England in mid-February.

Angela Rayner, a top official in the Labor Party, called the party revelations “a slap in the face” to millions who had followed the national coronavirus restrictions.

“The culture is set from the very top,” said Rayner, a deputy Labor leader. “The buck stops with the prime minister, who spent months lying to the British public, which is why he has got to go.”

Labor opponents, as well as some members of his own Conservative Party, have stated that Johnson should resign if he is fined for flouting rules he enacted for the United Kingdom during the coronavirus pandemic. A rep for Johnson would not reveal whether the prime minister would step down if he is fined.

“It’s a hypothetical situation,” said the spokesman, Max Blain.

Hannah Brady, a spokeswoman for the group COVID-19 Bereaved Families for Justice, declared that Johnson “should have resigned months ago over this.”

“By dragging it out longer, all he is doing is pouring more salt on the wounds of those who have already suffered so much,” she said.
