In June, the fast-rising New York rapper Lil Tjay was one of two victims shot at a shopping center in Edgewater, New Jersey. Tjay was taken to the hospital that evening and underwent successful emergency surgery. Today, Tjay shared a video update on his condition, revealing that he was shot seven times in the incident.

“I’m just checking in with y’all,” Tjay says in the video as he wears what appears to be a neck brace. “I just want to say thank you for the love, thanks for the support. Seven shots, it was tough… Most people don’t survive it, but I’m here, here for a reason. New music coming soon, we’re going to come back stronger than ever.”

As Stereogum points out, this past week saw a Lil Tjay billboard appear in the Bronx with the message: “I’m Back.”
