The Issue: The House’s vote to remove Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene from her committee assignments.

While the bigoted, false and vitriolic statements of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene may have been outside of the limits of decency, House Democrats should have been careful in their successful effort to remove her committee assignments (“House strips Greene,” Feb. 5).

This vote could open a Pandora’s box. As despicable as may be the actions of Greene, certainly there are Democratic members of Congress who are open to castigation and even similar punishment for their bigoted and false public statements.

For example, the four members of the Squad are not blameless, with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez leading the attacks, coupled with lying statements from Rep. Rashida Tlaib, which can only be considered anti-Semitic.

Why didn’t Republicans try to get Rep. Eric Swalwell off the Homeland Security Committee?

Why didn’t they move for charges against Rep. Maxine Waters after her famous speech inciting violent attacks on Republicans and try to have her removed from her committee? Or address members of the Squad for their hateful anti-Semitic speech and actions?

Although a handful of courageous Republicans are fighting back, the others disgust me. We need a new party.

The House stripped Rep. Greene (R-Ga.) of her assignments to the Education and Budget committees because of her calls for political violence and her peddling of far-right conspiracy theories.

In my opinion, our representatives did the right thing and should have done more. I found Greene’s comments most appalling and destructive to our democracy.

She liked a Facebook post that said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi should be executed, claimed school massacres were false-flag operations by gun-control advocates and questioned whether the Pentagon was hit by a plane on 9/11.

The House did the right thing, considering Greene was out of line and should have been impeached.

Remember this: Evil thrives when good people do nothing. The good people in Congress did something right.

It’s official: The GOP is the President Donald Trump/Marjorie Taylor Greene Crackpot Conspiracy Party.

Did Republicans get the message about one of the most dangerous members of Congress? No, they did not. Shamefully, only 11 of them joined the Democrats to strip Greene of her committee assignments.

The Republicans counter that the Democrats have not sanctioned members of their own party who have said inappropriate things. Indeed, there are a number of Democrats whose comments have been beyond the pale.

If any of them had advocated murdering an opponent or used words to help incite a murderous attack on the United States government, I would support their committee assignment removal or expulsion.

The Democrats now have a powerful tool to use in their efforts to retain the levers of power in Washington: The Republican Party will not chastise or distance itself from a member who is anathema not only to party tenets, but to the traditional values and ideals of our nation.

How much hypocrisy can a person take and still believe in government?

Greene has been ousted from her committee assignments. Yet Reps. Ilhan Omar and Maxine Waters stand strong after their mouths run afoul with no consequences.

Trump was slandered as having ties to Russia, which he wore like a scarlet letter for four years. The story was based on lies and deceit, yet the perpetrators go unpunished. Why doesn’t accountability apply to Democrats?

Our Republican representatives need to get their act together, not only to stand united but, more importantly, to stand strong.
