#Leslie Gillespie, teacher slapped with sex-abuse charges, dies by suicide

Leslie Gillespie, the Alabama teacher recently arrested and charged with the sex molestation of two students, has died by suicide, The Daily Beast reports.

Once a high school English teacher in North Courtland, Leslie Gillespie’s career came crashing down thanks to the sexual assault allegations.

The 44-year-old taught at R.A. Hubbard High School. 

Indiana authorities arrested Leslie Gillespie on Thursday and charged the teacher with rape and sodomy for her alleged defiling by sex of two underage students.

An Alabama high school English teacher apparently died by suicide two days after being charged with the rape and sodomy of two underage students, AL.com reported.

The charges against Leslie Gillespie in connection with the teacher’s alleged sexual assaults of the teens were felonies.

She was released on a $60,000 bond.

Then on Saturday, she reportedly ended her life.

Meaww reports that Gillespie appears to have shot herself.

On Saturday, May 29, she was found dead at home.

“It appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” coroner Scott Norwood said after analyzing the body of Leslie Gillespie, the teacher accused of sexual assault.

Indiana police found Gillespie’s body at her home in Hillsboro.

That’s a small town in Lawrence County.

According to Norwood, the body was found at about 11:30am on Saturday, WAAY 31 ABC reports.

Thursday, she was arrested for rape, sodomy and “school employee involved in sex with student” charges.

After finding the body of the allegedly sexually abusive teacher, Leslie Gillespie, Indiana police followed protocol.

This meant they sent her body to the Department of Forensics in Huntsville for the autopsy. 

Gillespie belongs to a collection of educators who have died by suicide while facing allegations of sexual misconduct in recent years.

AL.com reports that the two alleged victims were 15 and 16 years old at the time of the assaults.

Gillespie was arrested Thursday on felony charges of having sex with two students — ages 15 and 16 at the time — according to court records. A Lawrence County sheriff’s office investigator wrote in a criminal complaint that the sexual contact happened when Gillespie met with the two students in her classroom after school during September of 2020.
