“#Kotodama Shoujo Mixed-media Project Ends Its Activities as of March 31”

Avex Picture’s mixed-media project “Kotodama Shoujo” announced on March 15 that it will end its activities as of March 31, 2021. The project featuring virtual rap units of high school girls was launched in October 2019.

The voice cast of the project’s main four-member virtual rap unit Microphone Soul Spinners – Arina Sato (Rhyme Mukouda), Misaki Shinoda (Shiika YosanoI), Marina Tanoue (Himawari Kawabata), and Moe Amano (Chieri Villeneuve) – were chosen in the open audition held in September 2019. The story focuses on the four girls who belong to the lowest group of a star training high school and their success story to the top after encountering rap battle performances.

Suzuhito Yasuda (Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? novel illustrator) has provided the original designs for its main characters. Toshiya Ohno (The Promised Neverland series composition writer) has worked on the project’s composition, while Japanese rapper KEN THE 390 has served as its official ambassador. In addition to many music videos, a 24-episode web anime series Kotodama Shoujo the Animation -Microphone soul spinners– was streamed on its official YouTube channel and SHOWROOM.

The project’s official website writes, “With your support from the start of auditions in 2019, we were able to deliver all 24 episodes of the web anime series to the world in 2020. After that, we also successfully produced the music by all six members, which was our goal, thanks to your support. After the anime was finished, we have continued to focus on our music activities, but we have decided to end our activities as the Kotodama Shoujo Project on March 31, 2021, as we find it difficult to continue providing content.”

At this time, there are no plans to close the project’s official YouTube channel, so you can enjoy watching the girls’ videos for a while.
