#Koala winds up in Australian woman’s Christmas tree

New York may have had Rocky the little owl in its Christmas tree this year but an Australian woman has that beat — she had a koala in hers.

The tree-dwelling marsupial “wandered” into the southern Australia woman’s home this week and made itself comfortable inside her faux tree, a local koala rescue non-profit said.

The Adelaide and Hills Koala Rescue shared adorable photos on its Facebook page showing the furry animal holding on to the ornament-filled tree.

When local Amanda McCormick spotted the koala nestled into the tree Tuesday, she called the volunteer-run koala rescue organization, said the non-profit.

At first, a hotline operator who answered the call thought she was “the victim of a prank call,” the organization said.

“But no, a koala desperate to get in the Christmas spirit had wandered into Amanda McCormick’s house and decided it wanted to be the fairy on the Christmas tree,” said the group.

The organization thanked McCormick for the “great pictures” and for “making sure this little koala got its wish, even if it was just for a short while.”
