A jovial North Korean leader Kim Jong Un had food on his mind as he inspected a new chicken farm – as famished citizens were advised to eat small turtles to stave off their hunger, according to reports Thursday.

During his visit to the farm being built south of Pyongyang, Kim called for improvements to what he described as an outdated poultry industry, state media reported.

The official Korean Central News Agency quoted the despot as saying that the facility will churn out “thousands of tons of delicious and quality meat and tens of millions of tasty and quality eggs every year.”

It will make “significant contributions to the dietary life” of his people, Kim said.

He added that the facility is a model for modernizing chicken farms in the rest of the Hermit Kingdom, describing them as “backward” and mostly more than 20 years old.

It was unclear on what day Kim visited the new farm, but the rogue regime earlier this week advised people to consume terrapins – one of several small species of turtles, according to The Sun.

“From olden times, terrapin has been used in making haute cuisine for its good taste and abundant nutrient component,” the regime recommended.

“It has various essential nutrient components including protein, essential amino acid and vitamin efficacious for curing hepatitis, hypertension and other diseases,” the regime’s official Naenara website said.

“Its blood, carapace and bone are widely used as materials of Koryo medicines. In particular, its blood is efficacious for diabetes and weak children,” it added.

North Koreans also were encouraged to hunt for food — including bagging pheasants – and advised to drink a slimming tea developed by government doctors that will leave them “feeling full” while also losing 22 pounds in 40 days, The Sun reported.

“Now obese people can reduce weight with ease, once a hard work for them to endure,” inventor Ri Nam said.

Despite the food shortages amid UN sanctions imposed as a result of his drive for nuclear weapons, the rotund despot apparently has no trouble satisfying his ravenous appetite.

His family former sushi chef, Kenji Fujimoto, has claimed that the supreme leader – who has a fondness for Emmental cheese — once boasted he had downed “10 bottles of Bordeaux” during a meal.

Caviar and lobster also are reportedly part of Kim’s diet despite being banned from being imported into North Korea by the UN, The Sun reported.

Some 10 million North Koreans – about 40 percent of the population – face malnutrition, UN World Food Program spokeswoman Elizabeth Byrs has said, according to the outlet.

“Long-term damage to the health and development of children as well as pregnant and nursing mothers was evident,” she added.
