“Oshi no Ko Releases Main Trailer, YOASOBI Performing Opening Theme”

The upcoming Oshi no Ko anime adaptation has received a main trailer, which shows off more of the idol Ai Hoshino as well as snippets of her performance sequences.

Other elements previewed in the trailer include the titular children Aqua and Ruby in animated form, the newly announced opening song “Idol” by YOASOBI, and Megumi Han (also newly announced) as Arima Kana.

Additionally, more staff members were unveiled, including Shun Sawai (Shikimori’s Not Just A Cutie co-main animator) as sub-character designer, Studio Easter’s Tetsuya Usami (takt op. Destiny) as art director, Kei Ishiguro (Selection Project) as color designer, Kuwano Takafumi (Shikimori’s Not Just A Cutie) as photography director, and Takurou Iga (Selection Project) as music composer. Character designer Kanna Hirayama (Selection Project, Rent-A-Girlfriend), Maho Yoshikawa (My Senpai Is Annoying), Atsumi Tomoya (Shikimori’s Not Just A Cutie), and Miki Matsumoto (Summer Time Rendering character designer) are serving as chief animation directors.

Oshi no Ko also has a roster of main animators that includes:

• Takeshi Osame (Selection Project and Shikimori’s Not Just A Cutie co-main animator)

• Kenji Sawada (Lycoris Recoil gun/action supervisor, Shikimori’s Not Just A Cutie co-main animator)

• Asami Hayakawa (Komi Can’t Communicate co-main animator)

• Honoka Yokoyama (Visual Prison co-sub character designer)

• Kimiaki Mizuno

• Ayaka Muroga (Shikimori’s Not Just A Cutie key animator)

The anime is based on the Shueisha-published manga written by Aka Akasaki and drawn by Mengo Yokoyari, which series began serialization in Weekly Young Jump in 2020 and has nine tankoubon volumes as of October 2022. It is published under the Young Jump Comics label.

Yen Press describes the premise as:

Gorou is a gynecologist and idol fan who’s in shock after his favorite star, Ai, announces an impromptu hiatus. Little does Gorou realize that he’s about to forge a bond with her that defies all common sense! Lies are an idol’s greatest weapon in this outrageous manga from Aka Akasaka (Kaguya-sama: Love is War) and Mengo Yokoyari (Scum’s Wish).

The previously announced staff includes Daisuke Hiramaki (Selection Project, Asteroid in Love) as director, Chao Nekotomi (Shikimori’s Not Just A Cutie opening director and storyboarder, Selection Project Episode 7 dance part director and storyboarder et al.) as assistant director, and Jin Tanaka (Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club, Laid-Back Camp) as series composer. Doga Kobo is the animation production company.

Meanwhile, the cast members include Rie Takahashi as Ai, Takeo Otsuka as Aqua, Yurie Igoma as Ruby, Kento Itou as Goro, Tomoyo Takayanagi as Sarina , Yumi Uchiyama as young Aqua, and Yurie Igoma as young Ruby.

The anime is set to begin airing in April. The first episode will be pre-screened theatrically across Japan from March 17 with a 90-minute length.
