#Resident Evil Village Ties Highest 1st Month Shipment in Franchise

It seems the world can’t get enough of the giant vampire lady, as Capcom revealed yesterday that Resident Evil Village has rivaled that of the remake Resident Evil RE:2 for the most copies shipped in the first month with 3 million copies. Resident Evil 7 biohazard was the previous holder of the title of the most-shipped, non-remake, entry in the mainline Resident Evil games at 2.5 million copies, but has now been stomped on by the new game.

Capcom also released a behind-the-scenes video of how the theme song “Village of Shadows” was recorded for Resident Evil Village.

As a reference, “shipped” in this sense refers to copies of the game sold to retailers as well as digital copies of the game sold on platforms such as Steam or the PlayStation Store. These are the numbers that matter to the publisher as it shows how much they made, rather than how much was sold by retailers.

The previous mainline entry in the series, Resident Evil 7 biohazard went on to ship 8.5 million copies around the world since it was released in 2017. Resident Evil Village was released around the world on May 7 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, and PC.
