UQ HOLDER!

Manga creator Ken Akamatsu has confirmed he is changing careers as the writer of classics like Love Hina and Negima! Magister Negi Magi will be running in next summer’s House of Councillors (upper house) election for the Liberal Democratic Party. Due to this, Akamatsu announced on his Twitter account that his current manga series, UQ HOLDER!, will be ending in the March issue of Bessatsu Shonen Magazine, which releases on February 9.

Akamatsu revealed in December that he had been in discussions with Japan’s leading party but the conservative party hadn’t yet decided on who to run. Akamatsu has confirmed via his Twitter account that the party had chosen him for the upcoming House of Councillors (upper house) election in the upcoming summer elections through an open nationwide list where members are elected through proportional voting rather than representing a district itself. He campaigned alongside current House of Councillors member Taro Yamada at Comiket.

The last deadline for UQ HOLDER!‘s final chapter is January 26, with the chapter coming out on February 9, and the final volume, it’s 28th, scheduled to be released on March 9, 2020. The series began in Weekly Shonen Magazine on August 28, 2013, until it moved to Bessatsu Shonen Magazine in October 2016. Kodansha releases the series in English with Crunchyroll releasing chapters as they come out, describing it as such:

Negi Springfield, the boy wizard of the hit manga Negima!, fought and won many battles. Now it is decades later and Negi’s grandson(!), a little boy name Touta, dreams of leaving his quiet village and heading to the City. But first he must defeat his teacher … the immortal vampire, Evangeline! Witness the dramatic beginning of a futuristic battle fantasy—the newest series by Ken Akamatsu, creator of Love Hina and Negima!
