#Kate McKinnon tried so hard, but she kept breaking character as Rudy Giuliani on ‘SNL’
“#Kate McKinnon tried so hard, but she kept breaking character as Rudy Giuliani on ‘SNL’”
Saturday Night Live‘s latest Weekend Update turned to the one person who can help us understood the legal strategy following Donald Trump’s glorious loss in the 2020 election: Rudy Giuliani.
But Kate McKinnon, who does the show’s Giuliani impression, was so overwhelmingly joyous following Trump’s defeat (relatable) that she kept slipping out of character to laugh. It didn’t help that the sketch’s humor hinged on real, actual facts about the Trump campaign legal strategy, like Saturday’s ill-fated press conference at Four Seasons Total Landscaping.
But also, it’s just a happy time. Democracy beat fascism this week. And McKinnon, who’s parodied the former New York City mayor and villainous cretin many times over the past four years, is just doing what so many of us are feeling as she soaks it all in.
