Highlights from Jets practice on Tuesday:

The good

The Jets only held a light walkthrough practice on Tuesday, so there were not a lot of highlights. One thing that stood out was all the players wearing masks during the walkthrough. It is impressive to see all the measures the team is taking to stay safe. The Jets only have one player on the reserve/COVID-19 list, a signal that the organization has handled the protocols correctly.

The bad

Jets coach Adam Gase felt he needed to scale back practice because of all the injuries the team has suffered. They had just seven healthy wide receivers and three tight ends for practice. The injury bug derailed the Jets’ season last year. They can’t afford too many injuries this year.

Caught my eye

Backup quarterback Joe Flacco remains on the physically unable to perform list as he recovers from neck surgery, but he is still very engaged in practice. Flacco stands behind the play and talks to offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains and then starter Sam Darnold afterwards on many plays. Flacco could be an asset for Darnold this year.

Injury report

Gase confirmed that WR Vyncint Smith underwent core muscle surgery Tuesday and will miss the next 5-8 weeks. WR Braxton Berrios missed practice for a personal reason. WR Denzel Mims (hamstring), LB James Burgess (back), CB Brian Poole (dehydration) and DE Jabari Zuniga (quad) remained out.
