#JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 Becomes 80th Highest-Grossing Film in Japanese History With 7.7 Billion Yen in Just 18 Days

JUJUTSU KAISEN 0

Despite the opening of Spider-Man: No Way Home in Japan on Friday and taking the number 1 place over the weekend, giving the web-slinger the best opening weekend in January in history, JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 held on tight, making another 1 billion yen over the three-day holiday weekend for a total of 7.7 billion yen in a mere 18 days–one of the best results for a film in Japanese box office history.

As of Monday, January 10, JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 has brought in 7,714,084,650 yen (US$67.05 million) at the Japanese box office on the back of 5,671,950 tickets sold. This makes JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 the 80th highest-grossing film of all-time in Japan, just below the 2008 film Boys Over Flowers Final at 7.75 billion yen and pushing The Sixth Sense’s Japanese run down to 81st place. Because of this, JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 has pushed ONE PIECE FILM Z out of the top 100.

Unlike other anime films in the last few years, Including Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train, JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 still hasn’t begun any other incentive programs to bring more people to the theater for repeat viewing, as well as hasn’t opened up in 4DX or a few other premium formats. This will give the film more legs as the month turn to February.

It is also very unlikely that Spider-Man: No Way Home will overtake JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 at any point, with Spider-Man making 1,691,681,940 yen (US$14.68 million) over the first four days, giving it a great opening, just not as good as JUJUTSU KAISEN’s 2,694,128,150 yen (US$23,546,058).

The anime film had the second-biggest opening weekend in Japanese box office history. It was announced at the end of the JUJUTSU KAISEN TV anime series, which is streaming on Crunchyroll.
