#Joe Biden naming vice presidential staff ahead of revealing running mate

Joe Biden’s presidential campaign has assigned nine aides to his future running mate’s staff as he prepares for her reveal.

The presumptive Democratic nominee is expected to name his vice presidential pick as early as Tuesday after completing final interviews.

Biden’s pick was expected last week, but the announcement was delayed in order to occur closer to next week’s Democratic National Convention.

Biden, a longtime senator from Delaware who was vice president for eight years under President Barack Obama, turned to old hands to provide initial support to his running mate.

Liz Allen, a veteran of the Obama White House communications team, will be the VP candidate’s initial communications director, NBC News reported Tuesday.

Former MoveOn.org spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre will be their chief of staff, Biden campaign Southern political director Vince Evans will be the veep’s political director and Sheila Nix, a former chief of staff to Biden’s wife, Jill Biden, and Joe Biden’s chief of staff on Obama’s re-election campaign, will be senior adviser, according to NBC.

Four additional aides will serve as the running mate’s scheduling director, advance director, scheduling director for the running mate’s spouse and as a press assistant.

Biden has said repeatedly he will select a woman.

African American office-holders gained significant public attention following anti-police brutality protests in June, including Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), former national security adviser Susan Rice and Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.).

Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) also are often discussed as possibilities, as are several mayors and lower-profile figures.
