The documentary will be produced by Jimmy Kimmel and Sal “Cousin Sal” Iacono, among others.
“This one is going to be a lot of fun,” Kimmel wrote on Twitter.
In addition to the Mets’ thrilling comeback to defeat the Red Sox, some of the team’s controversies are sure to make an appearance in the docuseries. Ron Darling details in his book, “Game 7, 1986: Failure and Triumph in the Biggest Game of My Life,” how a number of his Mets teammates used amphetamines and drank beer in the middle of games during the 1986 season.
Other headlining players on the 1986 Mets were Daryl Strawberry and Dwight Gooden, who endured various substance abused and personal issues of the field. Mets broadcaster and former first basemen Keith Hernandez also had publicly acknowledged his cocaine addiction in 1985.
In addition, former outfielder Lenny Dykstra stirred up a heap of controversy with his alleged steroid use and gambling issues.
