#JFK’s Harvard sweater auctioned for $85,000

John F. Kennedy’s Harvard sweater was sold at auction for more than $85,000 — some than 60 years after it was given away to a TV cameraman. 

The red wool cardigan, which features a large “H” on the left breast and eight white mother-of-pearl buttons, was gaveled off this month to an undisclosed buyer at the Boston-based RR auction. 

JFK’s surname is also sewn into the sweater, which had been given to a CBS cameraman who said he felt cold during an interview with Jacqueline Kennedy in 1964, a year after JFK was assassinated in Dallas.

The special President’s Day auction featured several items from more than a dozen former US presidents. 

A signed photo of Abraham Lincoln and his son Tad was purchased for more than $135,000.

A lottery ticket signed by George Washington went for $26,000, and a letter Ronald Reagan wrote to his daughter was sold for nearly $24,000.

Memorabilia and personal items from John Quincy Adams, Ulysses S. Grant and Andrew Jackson, among other former presidents, were also auctioned.
