“Jets’ loss to Patriots also included possible missed penalty”

In a glorified punting competition, the Jets lost a heartbreaker.

During the final seconds of Sunday’s game between the Jets and Patriots, it seems the referees may have missed a potential game-changing block in the back on New England linebacker Mack Wilson Sr.

The likely missed call occurred at the Jets’ 17-yard line, which would have wiped out the game-deciding punt return touchdown and pushed the Patriots back to the Jets’ 27.

Speculation has mounted as to whether or not there was a possible missed penalty in Sunday's Patriots-Jets game on Nov. 20, 2022.

From there, the Patriots would have had roughly 10 seconds to work with, and if they didn’t gain another yard, they likely would have attempted a 45-yard field goal. No easy task, however, as Patriots kicker and ex-Jet, Nick Folk, missed two field goals from 43 and 44 yards earlier in the game.

But all of that is a moot point as the referees didn’t throw a flag.

As for the other 59 minutes in regulation, it was a snoozefest.

There were a total of 13 points scored and 17 combined punts, with 11 of those coming in the second half. Both offenses were mostly dormant, as the Jets had six first downs to the Patriots’ 13.

Although Jets quarterback Zach Wilson didn’t throw an interception, unlike his three-turnover outing against New England in October, the second-year signal-caller did not play well.

Wilson went 9-for-22 for 77 yards. Patriots quarterback Mac Jones, meanwhile, was 23-for-27 for 246 yards.

The Jets have now lost 14 straight to New England.
