#How to bet Sunday’s games

VSiN’s NFL experts drill into some betting angles for Sunday’s games.

Browns at Chiefs

Hill: Trivia time: When is the last time the Chiefs won a game by more than six points? I’ll wait. … Yes, in Week 8, the Chiefs defeated the Jets, 35-9, and they have not won by more than six points since that first day of November. The Chiefs have been sleepwalking through most of the season (or maybe they’re just not as dominant as we think). Remember, last year they trailed every postseason game by double digits, so this team is extremely streaky, even from quarter to quarter.

Now, in comes a Browns team having its most successful season in decades, with absolutely no expectations and nothing to lose. They could lose this game 50-0 and the season will still be unanimously commended as a rousing success. The Browns lost to the Jets in Week 16 and needed to beat the Steelers’ backups in Week 17 to avoid a humiliating end to their season, and they seemed tight and barely hung on to capture a 24-22 victory.

Any additional postseason success is house money for the Browns, who are like a mid-major team in the Sweet 16. They can play fast and loose, and they will take on a Chiefs team that hasn’t played all its starters since Dec. 27.

The Chiefs are a passing team, so they rely on timing and rhythm. Perhaps the time off will affect their offense, and the Browns will be able to establish a lead and run the ball well enough to keep Patrick Mahomes on the sideline. The Browns will have to play perfectly to pull off this monumental upset, but getting nearly double digits against a team that hasn’t played in three weeks — and hasn’t covered in months — is where I’m putting my money.

Buccaneers at Saints

Youmans: The Buccaneers have lost a game by more than three points just twice all season. Obviously, both of those losses were to the Saints, by a combined score of 72-26, including the 38-3 beatdown at Tampa Bay on Nov. 8. Maybe the Bucs’ season will end where it started, which was at New Orleans in Week 1, but Tom Brady is not going down without a fight this time.

For all of their regular-season success in recent years, the Saints have not played at the same high level in the postseason, and I was not particularly impressed with how they performed against a bad Bears team last week. There is more pressure on Drew Brees, who probably knows his next loss will end his career. Most power ratings will show this number should be 3.5, and there’s no real value in taking three points, so I’ll go the teaser route. It would not surprise me to see Brady knock out Brees.

Tuley: I’m sure you’ll be hearing the myth that “it’s hard for a team to beat another team three times in a season,” but 67 percent of the time, the winner of the two previous meetings pulls off the sweep. The offenses are pretty equal, but the Saints have the edge on defense, so I can’t pull the trigger on the Bucs plus just a field goal. I might actually pass on this game altogether if I have live teaser tickets to the Buccaneers +9.
