Dramatic video has emerged of a heroic maid grabbing a toddler and rushing the girl to safety after Beirut was rocked by a devastating explosion that has killed at least 137 people.
The footage shows the woman vacuuming on a terrace as the child plays nearby — and then all hell breaks loose after the blast, whose shock wave shatters the windows and sends the blinds flying.
The quick-thinking maid then swoops over the girl, grabs her and pulls her close to her chest as she flees inside.
Beirut’s governor, Marwan Abboud, has compared the devastation caused by the blast to the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan during World War II.
The video was shared on Twitter by journalist Muhammed Lila, who wrote: “This is the exact moment a maid risked her own life to save a little child, just as the explosion occurred. Heroes can be anywhere.”
