A new trailer, a new key visual, and new cast members have been revealed for the Butt Detective the Movie: The Secret of Souffle Island (known as Eiga Oshiri Tantei – Souffle-tou no Himitsu in Japan) and Deep Sea Survival! (known as Shinkai no Survival! in Japan), a pair of upcoming children’s theatrical anime films that will be released as a double-feature in August of 2021.
The new cast members (pictured above) include:
- Shigeru Chiba as Zaza in Butt Detective.
- Hiroshi Kamiya as Ruka in Butt Detective.
- Akira Kamiya as Pepe in Butt Detective.
- And Kappei Yamaguchi as Professor Kon in Deep Sea Survival!.
Based on the popular series of children’s books written and illustrated by Troll and published by POPLAR, the Butt Detective series (known as Oshiri Tantei in Japan) follows the adventures of a brilliant, crime-solving detective with a butt for a face. The third film sees our hero head to Souffle Island, an island with steep cliffs and a windy climate where everyone gets around by hang-gliding. Will Butt Detective be able to crack the case?
The Survive! series (known in Japan as Kagaku Manga Survival) is created by Gomdori Co and Han Hyun-Dong and published in Korea by Mirae N Co., Ltd. and in Japan by Asahi Shimbun Publications. Deep Sea Survival! follows Geo and company as they explore the ocean depths and have hair-raising encounters with creatures such as sperm whales and giant squid.
Butt Detective: The Secret of Souffle Island is directed by Akifumi Zako and features animation production by Toei Animation. Deep Sea Survival! is directed by Satoru Iriyoshi and features animation production by Toei Animation and Gallop. Both films will be released as a double-feature as part of the 2021 Tokyo Manga Matsuri film festival on August 13, 2021.
