A good Samaritan from Manhattan came to the aid of an NYPD traffic agent Thursday morning — with a shovel and some digging power, cops said.

Police officer Andrew Dillon, of the Citywide Traffic Task Force, could not get the police vehicle to start at 29th Street and Broadway in Midtown and decided to dig it out so it could be towed. As he was digging, a passerby stopped and gave him back up, police said.

Chief of Transportation Kim Royster tweeted about the deed.

“This is what New Yorkers do,” she wrote. “They see a person in need and they assist. Thank you to this resident in Manhattan who assisted one of our Traffic Agents dig their Department vehicle out of it’s parking spot.”

The officer thanked the person for their help, a police spokeswoman said.
