Fans got a glimpse of God of War Ragnarok at Sony’s recent PS5 showcase. Afterward, Sony confirms that this game is the last of the Norse mythology series for Kratos and Atreus. Players were astonished to hear this announcement as greek mythology always persevere in a trilogy.

Santa Monica Studio’s creative director Cory Barlog explained in an interview with God of War YouTuber Kaptain Kuba.

“One of the most important reasons is that the first game took five years. The second game is going to take close to a similar time to do this. A third one? We’re talking a span of close to 15 years on a single story, and I feel like that’s just too stretched out.”

Cory Barlog continues that the journey of Kratos and Atreus can be wrapped in a set of two games.

There has been a shift in the game development budget and year of involvement. Gaming enthusiasts witnessed the first original God of War in 2005. By 2013, the market was overflowing with God of War 2, God of War 3, Ghost of Sparta, Chains of Olympus, And Ascension.  Santa Monica Studio wants to deliver the game in 2 sequels and doesn’t want to stretch it into a trilogy. Game development and game goals are changing.
