#Daryl Hall Secures Restraining Order Against John Oates In Unfolding Business Dispute

A confidential legal battle is brewing between rock duo Hall & Oates, with Daryl Hall securing a temporary restraining order against John Oates.

Hall, through his trust, filed a lawsuit against Oates on Nov. 16, along with a motion to keep the case under seal. The next day, Nashville Chancery Court Judge Russell Perkins issued a restraining order to start on Nov. 30. It’s unknown why the order was issued or how long it will stay in effect. Philadelphia magazine first reported the suit on Monday.

The nature of the matter is unclear, though the court labeled it a “contract/debt” dispute. Summons were issued on Monday to Aimee Oates and Richard Flynn, as cotrustees of Oates’ trust.

A restraining bond for Hall, which is intended to compensate Oates if he was found to be wrongfully restrained, was also set at $50,000.

A lawyer for Hall and a rep for Oates didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. Neither side has commented on the situation.

In 2014, Hall & Oates were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The pair is among the bestselling duos of all time, with 29 hit songs starting in the mid-1970s through the early ’90s. They toured together last year, though each has also pursued solo recording careers.
