The upcoming anime television adaptation of Kaiko Sareta Ankoku Heishi (30-Dai) no Slow na Second Life will be directed by Fumitoshi Oizaki (Deaimon), with animation production being handled by Encourage Films. News of an anime series was first confirmed this past July 2022 and will premiere in January 2023.
The production team also revealed a new teaser visual, featuring the main characters Dariel (left) and Marika (right).
Other anime production staff involved in the series include Yoshihide Yuuzumi (Onee-chan ga Kita) as assistant director, Hitomi Amamiya (Merc Storia: The Apathetic Boy and the Girl in a Bottle) as series screenwriter, Satomi Yonezawa as character designer, and Tsubasa Itou (SHINE POST) as music composer.
The original Kaiko Sareta Ankoku Heishi (30-Dai) no Slow na Second Life light novels were first published on August 2, 2019 under Kodansha’s Overlap Novels label. It is written by Rokujuuyon Okazawa and illustrated by Sage Joh. Three physical volumes have been released as of August 2022. The series originated as a web novel on Shousetuka ni Narou and ran from November 15, 2018 to July 30, 2020.
A manga series was launched on August 6, 2019 in Young Magazine the 3rd, with new illustrations by Rurekuchie. It then moved to Monthly Young Magazine in 2021 and is published under the Young KC Special label. Seven tankoubon volumes have been released in total so far.
Crunchyroll News describes the anime’s synopsis as:
Dariel, a dark soldier in the demon king’s army who cannot use magic, has risen to the position of assistant to the Four Generals with his talent and energy, and has been wielding his skill. However, as soon as the Four Generals are replaced, Dariel is fired from the army. Dariel is devastated, but when he arrives in a human village, he finds that his adventuring skills, which are supposed to be useless to demons, have blossomed! “I was… human?” Dariel decides to spend his second life in this village, and the requests start pouring in! Trouble! False charge! Duel! With his natural skills and the adjusting power that he developed in his old place, the former dark soldier solves them all!
