#Fourth and final night of the 2020 RNC: Trump set to accept nomination

August 27, 2020 | 8:31pm

Thursday’s fourth and final night of the 2020 Republican National Convention is underway, building to a climactic address in which President Trump will formally accept the GOP nomination for reelection.

Though all eyes are on the south lawn of the White House, from which Trump will deliver his remarks before a live crowd of about 1,500, the undercard is hardly devoid of bold-face names.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, Democrat-turned-Republican Rep. Jeff Van Drew of New Jersey and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani — now Trump’s personal lawyer — are all on tap to speak.

Ivanka Trump, the president’s eldest daughter and a senior White House adviser, is also on the slate, following older brother Don Jr., who spoke Monday, as well as younger brother Eric and half-sister Tiffany, who both delivered remarks Tuesday.

In a late addition to Thursday’s docket, Pat Lynch, president of the NYPD’s Police Benevolent Association, will also speak, expanding on the union’s unexpected endorsement of Trump earlier this month.

The headliner, though, is Trump, making an extended pitch to the nation for four more years following First Lady Melania and Vice President Mike Pence’s addresses earlier in the week.

On a night bearing the theme of America as the “Land of Greatness,” Trump is expected to strike a balance between dinging Democratic challenger Joe Biden and touting his fourth and final night of the 2020 RNC: Trump set to accept nomination accomplishments.

“At no time before have voters faced a clearer choice between two parties, two visions, two philosophies, or two agendas,” Trump is expected to say, according to an excerpt of his speech released by his reelection campaign.

“We have spent the last four years reversing the damage Joe Biden inflicted over the last 47 years.”

But he will also look back on his own term — and endeavor to entice voters with something to look forward to if given another.

“The Republican Party goes forward united, determined, and ready to welcome millions of Democrats, independents, and anyone who believes in the greatness of America and the righteous heart of the American people,” he’s expected to say.

“This towering American spirit has prevailed over every challenge, and lifted us to the summit of human endeavor.”
