An Arizona arena formerly housing the Phoenix Suns will be converted into a polling station and depository of early ballots for the 2020 election.
The Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum housed the Suns from 1968 to 1991.
The move comes as the NBA and other athletic leagues are encouraging fans to vote and taking their own aggressive stands in support of Black Lives Matter and other causes.
On Aug. 26, the Milwaukee Bucks and Orlando Magic refused to play game five of their playoff series, in response to the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The Aug. 23 shooting left Blake severely injured and has led to days of unrest, riots and property destruction in the city.
