Flock of Dimes share new songs “Pure Love” and “Time”

Last year, Jenn Wasner stepped away temporarily from Wye Oak to share Head of Roses, a new project as Flock of Dimes. The project was a skillful and heartfelt expanse of indie rock tradition to include pop music (most clearly on “Two,” the album’s third track).

None of the project’s moments are as full-on Carly Rae Jepsen-ified as “Pure Love,” the A-side of the new double single from Flock of Dimes. Its sincere embrace of mall pop tropes and left-field production flourishes makes the track a hard one to resist.

After spending so much time over the past two years sitting with my grief—both personally and creatively—I’m thrilled to offer up two songs that center joy, hopefulness, and pleasure. What can I say about “Pure Love”? It’s a fun pop song about how wanting more is the cause of so much suffering! To me, overall, it’s a song about reaching for a more pure way of being–finding a way to accept our humanity and all of its failures and imperfections so that we can be at peace for a little while while we’re alive. It is also, hopefully, a lot of fun.
