First-person roguelike double-deckbuilder Shroom and Gloom to be published by Devolver Digital

Devolver Digital will publish Team Lazerbeam-developed first-person roguelike double-deckbuilder Shroom and Gloom when it launches for PC via Steam in 2025, the companies announced. A demo is available now.

Here is an overview of the game, via Devolver Digital:

Unleash cards to hack, slash and roast your way through hand-drawn dungeons of fungal foes. Build devastating decks and grow cards into massive abominations as you fight your way into the heart of The Gloom.

Shroom and Gloom offers unique ways for players to grow and modify their cards across two distinct decks. Use the combat deck to survive fierce battles and the explore deck to navigate dungeons, transform your cards and unlock new weapons and abilities. Grow low-level starting cards into overpowered attacks, or modify rare cards into game-breaking super-weapons.

But in a dungeon full of fungus, why block your enemies when you could eat them instead? Shroom and Gloom features a bounty of ways for you to season, skewer or roast your foes, then eat them to restore lost health. Better yet, throw your roasted enemies into a pot, and cook up some game-changing soups.

Coming to Steam Early Access later this year, Shroom and Gloom is set to grow exponentially once its spores are dispersed. In the meantime, Team Lazerbeam is encouraging mushroom hunters the world over to dive into the brand new demo, which is available now.

The Shroom and Gloom demo drops you into its murky depths to battle through 26 handcrafted tunnels and face off against spore-swarming enemies and biome bosses.

Discover game-changing Foresight cards to shape your experience through multiple runs, unlock powerful combos across three playstyles and explore strange rewards hidden in The Gloom.

Since 2014, Cape Town-based Team Lazerbeam has been on a quest to blast people in the face with joy and celebrate imperfection. Embracing a do-it-yourself punk ethos, the eight-strong Lazerbeams cram pieces of their personalities into every project, rough edges and all, to create experiences that feel handmade and human.

Previous titles from the band include Teenage Blob, Snowcones, and Wrestling With Emotions. Shroom and Gloom is their most ambitious project yet, so wishlist it now and live forever.
