The production team for Megaton Musashi has announced that the anime’s final two episodes will be delayed by two weeks, due to the impact of COVID-19 on the production. The 26th episode will still air as scheduled on February 17, 2023. 

Episodes 27 and 28 will instead be broadcast on March 10, 2023 and March 17, 2023, respectively.

This is not the first time Megaton Musashi has faced production delays. The 19th episode of season two was delayed from November to December last year. Additionally, the initial final five episodes of the second season were delayed from December 2022 to February 2023. 

The second season premiered on October 7, 2022 as part of the Fall 2022 anime season. Its first season aired on October 1, 2021 for 13 episodes. 

The production delay of the second season of Megaton Musashi is one of many titles affected by COVID-19 that includes NieR: Automata Ver 1.1a, UniteUp!, Ayakashi Triangle, Kubo Won’t Let Me Be Invisible, Bofuri, and Spy Classroom, among others.  

Like the previous season, Megaton Musashi Season 2’s staff includes Shigeharu Takahashi (Youkai Watch Jam – Eiga Youkai Gakuen Y: Neko wa Hero ni Nareruka) as director, Takuzou Nagano (Megaton Musashi game) as the original character designer, Yuuji Ikeda (Inazuma Eleven: Orion no Kokuin) as character designer, and Kenichirou Saigou (Yo-kai Watch) as music composer. OLM is handling the animation production for the series.

Level-5 game designer Toshihiko Kuriaki is credited with the anime’s concept art, while Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino is credited as original creator, series screenwriter, chief director, and scriptwriter.

The main voice cast includes Toshiki Masuda as Yamato Ichidaiji, Shunsuke Takeuchi as Ryugo Hijikata, Souma Saitou as Teru Asami, Kouki Uchiyama as Reiji Amemiya, Sumire Morohoshi as Jun Kirishima, Megumi Han as Momoka Saotome, Ayumu Murase as Kota Akutagawa, and Yuuki Kaji as Takumi Kindaichi.

The anime series is part of a multimedia project that includes an RPG game by Level-5 as well as numerous toys and comics. The game and its six DLCs are included in an upcoming free-to-play release called Megaton Musashi X, which includes new story content, online PvP, new robots, and other additions. It launched in Japan on December 16, 2022 for PS5, PS4, and Switch.

Megaton Musashi takes place on an Earth where 99.9% of humans have been wiped out by an extraterrestrial threat. As the aliens carry out terraforming, humanity is forced to retreat into shelters. The inhabitants of Shelter Ixia have their memories of the invasion erased and live normal lives in ignorance. However, there are a select few “chosen ones” among the inhabitants who become pilots of a robot called Rogue to fight back against the aliens. The story begins with the selection of a new pilot.
