Now police are looking for Jeffrey Thurston in connection to one of the latest acts of gun violence in Gotham as shooting spike in every borough.
Thurston allegedly began arguing with the 20-year-old Malachi Capers inside the 136 Deli & Grill on Springfield Avenue in Queens around 5:30 p.m. Monday, according to Chief Rodney Harrison.
Then, he allegedly punched Capers in the face, pulled a gun and fired when the fight spilled onto the sidewalk, video shows.
Capers was shot once in the abdomen and remains critical Tuesday afternoon, Harrison said in a Tweet.
Capers last played for Buffalo in 2018, stats show, but remains enrolled at the college, according to Harrison. ABC reports he was majoring in psychology.
“Malachi was a well-liked member of our football family during his freshman year in 2018 and has remained a friend to many in our program as he has continued his education at Buffalo State after leaving the team due to on-going injury issues,” Buffalo State head football coach Christian Ozolins said in a statement to a local NBC news station.
“We have him in our thoughts as we wish for a speedy and full recovery.”
